New nature and living can go hand in hand. Volle Grond developed Inner Landscape in this Lab. Inner Landscape brings together places of meaning in new housing developments with the regeneration of the soil. This results in a landscape of 7 places of reflection, each with its own character and its own possibilities for use. These places also connect in 7 different ways to the living layers around us, from water to air and from underground fungal networks to birds and insects. Inner Landscape shows an environment in which living and nature are no longer separate but enter into a symbiosis, one in which the inhabitant of an area also actively participates in strengthening the entire ecosystem.
What do area developers have to give to people living in revitalisation districts? Social Designer Fides Lapidaire, along with experts from Sweco, came up with the Give Shop, a reverse gift shop. It’s a pop-up shop that showcases giving as a basic pillar in area development. “In our consumer society, people are encouraged to take in many areas, I want to use the Give Shop to create a context where people are actually encouraged to give,” Lapidaire said.
What if train stations evolve into more than just transportation hubs? Studio Kornelia Dimitrova and Massif Architects worked together as a team to open new perspectives on the role of train stations in the future. Together with experts from Sweco, they designed a strategic framework with different scenarios. Decision-makers and designers can use this framework to create stations that meet community needs. For example, stations can provide space for social amenities, contribute to local ecology, or become lively meeting places.
The countdown has started: only 3 more weeks until Dutch Design Week! In the Klokgebouw at Strijp-S you will find the physical presentations of these three concepts. Walk past the 7 reflection places of Full Ground, learn to give in the Give Shop of Fides Lapidaire and discover the four future scenarios for our train stations developed by Studio Kornelia Dimitrova and Massif Architects. “The what if lab provides an ideal environment for exploring the underlying ’why’ questions, in our case – examining the reasons behind the current state of our stations. The what if lab team were of great support, always keen to think along and to reflect with us and help the process further. Creating space for us to rely on Sweco’s practical perspective, while having the space for a more speculative exploration.”
